There were two parts to the Green Lantern: First Flight Media Preview Day on Thursday. The first involved the introduction of the newly revamped DC Universe area. With a curtain drawn, and people anxoiusly waiting, Six Flags opened the area with a boom and an amazing transformation. Check out our photo tour of the new theming of DC Universe. Tune in later on our YouTube Channel for the video of the launch.
We've been following the DC Universe transformation unfold since the beginning, and honestly this area is really coming along well. As it finishes, new changes are always turning up- Major changes too. To summarize crew's work in the area, they have added the official flat ride entrances for both Wonder Woman and The Flash that include large cutouts of the characters. Green Lantern also features one of these, but Batman is unconfirmed. Wonder Woman had once again another name change to- Wonder Woman: Lasso Of Truth as indicated on the sign in front. The Flash is now fit with the tag line: SPEED FORCE. In addition, the DC Universe archway certainly has surprised us all, now displaying various DC characters in each of it's squares.
The archway is still yet to be completely filled with characters as it is seen in Picture #3. The Lemonade venue by Batman has been re-themed to SmallVille Soft Frozen Lemonade (Smallville is Superman's hometown by the way). The corn cart still remains and was not actually replaced, a mistake on our part. Overall, the area is really showing it's brighter side than it was with the Gotham City theme. Paint is continuing to be added to buildings in DC Universe as the area begins to get closer to June 18- Opening for both the area and Green Lantern as well. Some minor changes have been going on since the last update. Green Lantern's station is also halfway finished as seen in the last picture. Trivia: The 344 number as seen in the middle of the second row, refers to "344 Clinton Street", deriving from the address Superman (or Clark Kent) stayed for most of his career in the comics. Only a few things have changed in a few days, but crews have recently applied new paint schemes to various buildings and structures in DC Universe. The Entry Archway has been given a gray with red paint job which seems to add color compared to the previous gray scheme put to it in the old Gotham City. The other major change in the area was Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso structure being painted various themes and colors. Other than that, nothing else is very noticeable. And by the way, Green Lantern opens Saturday, June 18 which could mean that DC Universe will unveil then or maybe before!
While we were strolling the park yesterday afternoon, we passed by DC Universe. Crews were working on several things, notably re-painting Grinder Gearworks (soon Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso) blue as seen in Photo #1. Although, we were expecting a 'golden' paint scheme to fit the name, they may be adding more paint themes to it. In Photo #2, you can see that they have re-painted the fake town-style building facades to the side of the main area path across from Atom Smasher (The Flash). If the re-paintings will presume later on everywhere in DC Universe, this area will definitely be bursting with colors. In Photo #3, a man is painting Grinder Gearworks station building white, similar to the same white treatment seen in other buildings in the area. Green Lantern's track is also completed and is very visible from the surrounding paths of the park. And lastly, the lighting frame in front of the barrier as well as the plaza is for Grad Nite performers, not DC Universe.
The former Gotham City Backlot area is currently closed off to park guests while the crews work on Green Lantern, or as the sign indicates, the park's next thrill. However, we suspect that it might be more than just Green Lantern construction. Keep in mind that Magic Mountain still must 'transform' Gotham City Backlot into DC Universe. This will include a re-theme of the two flat rides (Atom Smasher & Grinder Gearworks) into The Flash & Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso along with the Axis store converting to the DC Store. Regardless of the temporary closure, this creates a difficulty in one; seeing construction of Green Lantern and two; Riding Batman The Ride. No signs of any changes in the area so far, but it does look like it is storage for boom lifts, which looks as if they're being used for the archway along with the building facades. No set date on when the section will re-open, but it would be a clever way to introduce the new DC Universe with Green Lantern. (click to enlarge)
